Total Loss (Haider Al Timimi)
Margaret Thatcher claimed in the 80's: "There is no such thing as society." After which she tore down the state and left her citizens behind dispirited. Under the guise of freedom everyone is held accountable for their own success. If you don't make it, it's your own fault.
Take Geert Vandyck. His father owned a hardware store. The crisis was bad for business. Very bad. Bailiffs come and go. Until nothing remains but two men, two chairs, a table, a bed and two cups.
But what if even the coffee runs out? Some people read the future in the black coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup. Father and son Vandyck shake their thermoses empty in a performance that can't find any more words. A three-part gospel choir is ready to mop. Because you need to do something to make a living.
I'll fix your feet 'til you can't walk
I'll lock your jaw 'til you can't talk
I'll close your eyes so you can't see
this very hour come and go with me
