Robbert&Frank Frank&Robbert met at secondary school in Kortrijk at the age of 15. Since 2006 they have been active as an artistic duo, with each being the creative and technical yin to the other’s yang. Both graduated from Ghent’s KASK in 2012, having studied Multimedia Design.
F&R R&F effortlessly combine various artistic techniques and forms of expression, amassing a body of work that isn’t limited to any one style or medium. Visual art, video work, theatre productions, performances ... the multidisciplinary world of R&F F&R knows no bounds. In addition to their performances, the duo also builds site-specific installations and their solo exhibitions and visual interventions can regularly be seen in museums, off-spaces and public places.
The awards and honours they have received in recent years attest to the wide dissemination of their work. Among other accolades, they have received the Horlait Dapsens Prize (visual art and performance) and were laureates of both the British-Italian Celeste Prize (visual art) and the European Start Point Prize (installation art). They have also received a research grant from the Flemish Government as part of the exchange with Air Alexanderplatz Berlin. In 2014 they made it to the final selection of Circuit X with their theatre work, following which they toured internationally under the aegis of Campo arts centre.
Currently, F&R R&F are working on Table Dialogues, a project that combines extended reality, interactive theatre and visual art. In each of these interactive performances there is a focus on one of the five elements of the Chinese Wu Xing – earth, fire, water, wood and metal.
